I’m an award-winning product design leader with over 16 years of experience designing digital products and interfaces.
Hi, I’m Matt Weldon. I’ve been designing interfaces and digital products in San Francisco since 2006, specializing in streaming media, mobile UX design, and connected hardware. I’ve worked with teams both small and large, onsite and remote, in-house and external.
I design digital products, build teams, and create product design strategies.
I currently manage the 15-person product design and user research team at Sling TV. Previously I’ve had numerous roles in design including:
Building and managing product design teams at Sling TV and August Home
Leading design and design strategy at Eight Sleep, Depict, and FUZZ Radio (now feed.fm)
Inventing new product concepts at Dropchannel
Working on design teams at Logitech, JUUL Labs, Sequence, Snocap, Slingbox, and Yardbarker
Interning as webmaster for the Indiana Pacers NBA team
How can I help your team?
Product design team-building and leadership
Cross-functional, holistic design strategy and processes
Cross-platform (multi-device, software + hardware) product design and strategy
Individual-contributor wireframing, prototyping, and user research
What’s important to me
Successful products are designed holistically and cross-functionally (I've yet to see one that wasn't!). User needs and product goals matter, but so do business and technical constraints, product/market fit, and schedule. The most successfully designed products are crafted with a deep empathy and understanding of the customer, as well as the various teams in an organization able to impact their experience.
The strongest contributions I’ve made to organizations have been as more than just a good product designer (of course I build prototypes, mockups/wireframes, get user feedback in various ways, and look for data to inform my designs) - but also as a close collaborator across teams to build a shared design strategy and vision, with a laser focus on empathy and understanding of the customer.
